Update - Mental Health in America
In the last 6 months, I've been all over the country and have talked to 200 or so people about their experience with mental health issues. Along the way, I've visited some incredible places like SHARE! in Los Angeles, Advocacy Unlimited in New Britain, CT. and 9Muses Art Center in Miami. These and so many other organizations have graciously opened their doors to me and taught me so much about the challenges that we face and the potential solutions.
I've been silent online because I really needed to focus on what was in front of me and have time to digest all that I've learned. I realized pretty early in the process that it was important to me to have a better understanding of the big picture before I began sharing individual stories.
I do intend to share many of these stories with you and I will when it gets closer to the release of the book.
For now, I'll do my best to keep you updated on the progress.
I'm about 90% finished gathering stories. I'm looking forward to my next trip in two weeks. I'm headed to N.Y. to talk to some of the fine folks at the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, the nation’s top non-governmental funder of mental health research grants.
Thanks for hanging in there with me during my long silence. Good things are on the horizon!
