Ela (2nd Meeting)
Every time I go back to the neighborhood where I first met Ela, I’m on the lookout for her. It’s been a while, so, I figured she’d moved on. But yesterday, we met again.
BW: Where are you staying?
Ela: On the street. I have blankets and a sweater and a jacket.
BW: Are you always outdoors?
Ela: I usually sleep in a stairwell because its like half closed and kind of warm. One night it was so cold that I had to start a little fire with a magazine. It was just that cold. I couldn’t get warm.
BW: Well look… I’m not trying to freak you out but they were talking about someone on the news that’s killing homeless people.
Ela: *groan* Here in Georgia? No! It is true!
BW: Yeah. There’s only been two but they think it’s the same person.
Ela: Well say it. What happened? How’d he kill them?
BW: Sounds like he just walked up and shot them while they were sleeping.
Ela: That’s really scary, dude. I’m walking around until all hours of the morning because I’m too scared to sleep at night and now this.
BW: It seems like the person who’s doing it is targeting the most vulnerable people, when they are at their most vulnerable. I just want you to be careful.
