Lidia: I left Florida last year and went to New Orleans. I got diagnosed with cancer and I got diagnosed with heart failure and liver failure. My mom lost my little sister when I was 16 so… this is a big change. I don’t want to go. I know the man might say I only got 9 months but the Lord is the only one who can tell me when it’s my time.
BW: What kind of cancer did they diagnose you with?
BW: And they said you only have 9 months?
Lidia: Yeah, they said my liver is looking really bad.
BW: Is there treatment they can do for it?
Lidia: Well, I left New Orleans because I’m just tired. I’m an addict. I smoke crack cocaine. I guess you could say that I been running the streets more than taking care of my health.
BW: Are you close to your mom?
Lidia: We are but we’ve been growing apart because of my addiction and because I’m not close to home.
BW: What’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for you?
Lidia: Uhmm… When I overdosed on methamphetamine my mama came to the hospital and she brought me dinner. She sat with me for hours and hours. It was really nice because I finally got be with her, without her being upset and her taking it out on me emotionally because I usually get in the way.
BW: Is there any message you want to tell your mom?
Lidia: *tears* I love you mom and I’m sorry
BW: What are you sorry for?
Lidia: I’m sorry about hurting you emotionally and physically and I just want you to know that I’m trying. I know that I’m fucking up hard but I’m trying to get everything situated. And I want to see my little brother and little sister and my twin sisters. I hope to see you guys soon.
