Mike lives under a bridge in East Nashville. We talked a lot about the tough times, when he was hit by a car, getting laid off from work and his wife leaving him. We also talked about some of the good times in his life.
Mike: The best day of my life was when my daughter was born. She’s 24 now. Her name’s April. She was supposed to have been born in April but she was born in May. We was going for either April or Michelle so we stuck with April.
BW: Are you close to your daughter?
Mike: Oh yeah, she’s great. I just talked to her a while ago. She’s got two boys and she’s wantin’ to have a girl *chuckles*. In fact there’s my daughter right now.
To my surprise April pulled up with her family and they visited for a few minutes. April took pictures of her dad and her sons, sitting on the curb, together. She handed him some supplies and an envelope and allowed me to take a picture of them together. Then they were gone.
BW: Do you have any regrets with April?
Mike: I love my daughter. I love my daughter. I love my daughter. I would kill for her. I would kill for that girl!
BW: I believe you.
Mike: I know I would!
